I love the book of Proverbs, don’t you? All the other books of the bible are amazing as well, but Proverbs has a way of plainly stating points that would otherwise require extensive explanation. They’re also often accompanied by similes and metaphors to illustrate the point to be made in your mind.
Mic drop
In case you’ve been living under a rock for the past few years (which may not be the worst idea these days!), let me explain a mic drop. When someone (speaking, singing, rapping, etc.) makes a particularly good point, one that seals the argument, to which it’s assumed no further comment can be made, they drop the microphone. This often follows a statement that sums up their entire cause or platform.
The mic drop book
Proverbs is full of mic drop moments. Without the thread of a story running through it, it’s a seemingly random collection of wise statements. Solomon, the author of most of Proverbs, has been known for thousands of years for his God-given wisdom. He wasn’t without sin or selfishness, but he applied the wisdom God gave him in these writings that still today teach God’s people how to live.
The book of Proverbs has 31 chapters, making it ideal to read through in one month for just a few minutes daily. Some people make it a practice to read one chapter of Proverbs at the dinner table each evening and discuss it with their children during the meal. However you study it, keep your eye out for the following mic drop opportunities.
